New Mexico Venture Studios welcomes Sebastian Wicklein, PhD, as Vice President, Deep Tech Ventures guiding growth and global partnerships.

In this role, Sebastian will solidify strategic partnerships that create pathways for life science and deep tech startups to expand between U.S. and global markets.

Sebastian brings over two decades of business development leadership in deep tech including materials science, semiconductor engineering, and quantum computing across the Atlantic. He most recently led scientific business development at Quantum Machines, driving partnerships with research labs, national institutes, and industry partners in the quantum computing space across the U.S., Germany, and Israel. Before that, he spent five years at Fraunhofer USA, rising to Director of R&D Coordination and Business Development, where he shaped corporate R&D strategy across AI in manufacturing, semiconductor tech, quantum technologies, energy technology, life sciences, and aerospace technologies. He also worked closely with respective science diplomats in Washington, D.C.

Sebastian is no stranger to New Mexico. He previously served as Senior Staff Technologist at Intel in Rio Rancho, where he helped to develop and bring Optane memory technology to production. Before Intel, he spent five years at SanDisk in Silicon Valley engineering next-generation memory devices. He holds a PhD in Materials Sciences from Kiel University, earned through research at Germany's Forschungszentrum Jülich, one of Europe's premier research centers.

“Sebastian’s track record of turning deep tech research into real-world partnerships for commercialization is exactly what NMVS was built to do at scale for life sciences and deep tech,” said Alex Koglin, PhD, Co-founder and CEO of New Mexico Venture Studios. “His experience in science diplomacy gives us a unique bridge between New Mexico’s research assets and European partners.”

At New Mexico Venture Studios, Sebastian will drive research partnerships, technology transfer, and transatlantic connections that help life science and deep tech startups start, scale, and stay in New Mexico.

Welcome to the team, Sebastian.

New Mexico Venture Studios will deploy the $2.0M EDD TIO Innovation Hubs Grant to begin tenant improvements transforming an existing Albuquerque facility into specialized wet lab, dry lab, and office space, addressing a critical component of the infrastructure deficit that forces life science and deep tech startups to relocate. This initial investment will begin the buildout of IP-protected facilities that enable startups to scale locally, ensuring New Mexico's intellectual property translates directly into local economic growth.
